Transitions are important as harbingers of change and growth, of leaving and arriving. We mark these transitions as if to say, “I see you. You have grown.” A door facing with pencil markings showing changes in height comes to mind. However, not all transitions are captured in such physical ways. The most profound transitions are the ones that mark hearts, minds, and souls. These marks are born by friends whose hearts beat differently; our minds think more deeply and souls feel more freely because of the love and work of the one who is leaving.
